About

Dennis Ngan is an interdisciplinary artist and spectator. He was born in Hong Kong and is currently based in London. He explores time, space, and image presentation through photography, moving images and installations. His works inquire how images are presented, concealed and consumed on the cyberspace, investigating surveillance and the spectacle. His belief of the idea of realism in arts, which is the accurate and detailed depiction of contemporary life, directs his sight at the internet. He believes that the cyberspace is the defining medium to examine life in the bad new days. He uses the “materiality” of the internet to examine contemporary life, probing into how an image is presented, concealed and consumed on it.

Through making and curating images, he investigates how these interactions can be reimagined to tell stories behind our voyeuristic and exhibitionistic drives.  By disrupting the normal use of devices that capture and display images, the works generate a dialogue between oppositions: the static and the moving, the mundane and the spectacular, the then and the now.
